New@Kresge: Popular Science Collection

Exciting news! The Kresge Popular Science Collection has officially launched! This collection will feature books on current, popular, high-interest science topics in the physical and general sciences.

They are available for a 28-day circulation period with no renewals so come find something fun to read! If you have comments or suggestions, please feel free to email me or drop an anonymous note in our comment box!

Some of my latest projects

I’m constantly thinking of ways to do outreach to undergrads and grad students. It’s harder than you think! We offered workshops in the spring but there was 0 attendance. So… how else can I reach students at the optimal time?

  • study the academic timeline for key points in a student’s career when s/he would need assistance from a librarian
  • talk to faculty about ideas for what students need help with
  • figure out where students can get writing assistance

I’m also on a working group on open access so we are planning programs for Open Access Week (October 22-28). Lots of work to do here!

We’re also developing a Popular Science Collection at Kresge! I’m really excited for this. We’ve already got a list of books for our pilot collection and starting to build a research guide to augment the collection.
